Vans is proud to welcome China illustrator Felix Shaozi to be the winner of the first ever Vans Custom Culture Competition in Asia. As the grand-prize winner, Felix has been awarded $2,000 USD plus an opportunity of sharing creativity at the House Of Vans London. We will bring the shoes deign to life and will be on shelf at Vans Stores in 2018.
To encourage creative self-expression and support the next generation of creative individuals, Vans activated the Custom Culture Competition in China, Hong Kong, Korea, India, Malaysia and Singapore this year with 15,000 designs collected since this April. The qualified submissions were showcased on Vans.com/CustomCultureAsia and selected by public voting and panel of judges. “Vans has a wonderful brand culture which embraces creativity, I still participate in perseverance although I rarely win any prize”, said by Felix.
Co-created with his mentor artist Lin Wen Xin, Felix’s shoe design which featured an alligator and appealing green-red colors came up as the final winner. “I think they’re really creative and fun, and that’s the most important to me, as they show a good sense of humor. In some ways, it’s really simple and it’s a perfect fun thing.” Said Jay Howell, international artist and judge of Vans Asia Custom Culture Competition 2017.
