VANS ASIA CUSTOM CULTURE COMPETITION STARTS NOW

Vans brings Custom Culture Competition to Asia for the first time, giving artists a platform to showcase their creativity and win the chance to bring their shoe design to life!

Vans Custom Culture was created to empower and inspire creative individuals to express themselves through art and design. Since 2010, Vans has supported arts education with the Custom Culture Competition in order to celebrate student creativity and call attention to the fact that school art programs are suffering due to diminishing education budgets in the United States. Each year, the competition finalists receive a donation to enhance their school’s art programs that will enable the next generation of creative individuals.

This year, Vans is bringing the Custom Culture competition to Asia for the first time, and further expands a platform to support artists around the world. “Art is a form of creative expression that is deeply personal and individual, yet provides a universal language that connects and inspires our consumers globally,” said Lizzy Yao, Brand Communication Director, Vans Asia. “As a brand, we believe that today’s youth deserve the right to art, and we are honored to provide platforms for artists to share their ideas with the world,”.

Vans Asia Custom Culture kicks off in April and is open to the legal residents of China, Hong Kong, India, Korea, Malaysia and Singapore. The winning artist will receive a cash prize, as well as the opportunity to host their very own Global House of Vans workshop and have their winning design featured the Vans Authentic to debut on shelves Asia-wide in 2018!

From April 24 until July 31, submissions are open for D.I.Y. paper shoe designs – judges are looking for designs that stand out with authenticity, creativity, local flavor and true “Off The Wall” spirit.

The top 60 entries from the first round will be shortlisted who will then customize a pair of real deal True White Authentic’s for the public to vote. Six semi-finalists will win tickets to House of Vans Asia’s stop, where they will meet their mentors and partner up to create a joint design before the showdown at the House of Vans finale event. The winning design will be announced in October, and finalist will make their way to the Global House of Vans stage.
