VANS OPENS ASIA’S FIRST BRAND SHOWCASE STORE IN THE CENTER OF GANGNAM, SEOUL

Vans opened the first brand showcase store in Asia located at the center of Gangnam, Seoul. The 3,000+ sq. foot retail floor space, includes various brand experience zones, two floors of product displays ranging from footwear to apparel and accessories for men and women, and areas dedicated to skate, surf and snow.

The Vans brand showcase store combines brand experience and storytelling - a wall of vintage speakers and TV’s designed by Berlin-based sound sculpture artist Benoit Maubrey, is installed at the first level of the store. The vintage speakers sourced from archives and junk piles from the 1960’s to the 1990’s, are wired into a full DJ console offering both CDDJs and vinyl decks.  Adjacent to the speaker wall is a live radio space enabling artists and musicians to gather and share their music and creativity to customers.

Walking up to the second-floor customers will be surrounded by the world of art and customizing culture representing Vans DNA.  Vans invited Los Angeles based Korean American artist Cryptik to paint a mural with his signature calligraphic style, embedding a message of perseverance, determination and triumph. Encoded within the work are the words of Confucius “Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.”  The customization zone on the same floor enables customers to design their own Vans shoes and accessories with a variety of tools including screen printing, embroidery and dip dying. In addition to being free and open to all every day, staff and invited artists are also onsite to help customers with their designs.

The largest section in the brand showcase store is the shoppable timeline, where consumers can understand key moments in Vans history from 1966 to today. Customers can shop the items on the timeline including the Vans signature Eras, books, vinyl and original photo prints. They can also check out the Vans culture library on the second floor where an array of books, magazines, and zines are available for reading. These dedicated areas help to present detailed stories of Vans heritage within art, music, skateboarding and street culture stretching from the past and their influence for the future.

The Vans brand showcase store is set to offer weekly programing including art workshops, music showcases and cultural events.  Stay tuned to the Vans Korea Instagram for more information.
